Branches and Leaves

A series begun during a residency at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, these paintings of branches, leaves, and other objects are influenced in part by my interest in Japanese paintings. I focused on segments of the overall scene, drawn into the networks of positive and negative spaces.

Gardens

These observational paintings explore landscape in yards, parks, and gardens. Rapidly moving shadows animate the passages of light and dark in this work. These paintings reflect my interest in light, changing seasons, and times of day.

Still Life

This group represents recent approaches to studio still life painting. The objects on table tops are points of departure for explorations of space and color.

Bouquets

This series is a group of improvisations based on close views of flowers. Gesture is the basis for these paintings.
